This article explains the transformation of the theology of cognition across two key stages: the Islamic Revolution and Mahdism. In the stage of the Islamic Revolution, wilayi reason functions as the axis of formal theology, where religious cognition is structured within the social system of wilaya, and its criterion of validity is divine expediency. In the stage of Mahdism, the Imam’s knowledge represents the complete manifestation of that same reason at the level of applied cognition— a level in which justice and the unity of cognition with the truth of wilaya serve as its criteria. Accordingly, the theology of cognition transitions from expediency-oriented wilayi reason in the Islamic Revolution to justice-oriented Imam’s knowledge in the era of Mahdism—an epistemic progression through which the structure of cognition rises from the level of social governance to the level of the realization of truth. The present study employs a descriptive-analytical method, and the required data were collected through a systematic review of library sources. The theoretical outcome of the research is the presentation of a conceptual model that explains the intrinsic connection between religious knowledge and Islamic civilization, as well as clarifies the internal evolutionary process of the epistemic system from the domain of wilaya to the realm of imamate.
